Let’s Make Development Signs More Human Friendly

A picture is worth a thousand words. If that’s true, then why are all our development and zoning signs a wall of text?

When we pass by a sign advertising a new development, we’re accustomed to seeing a sign in small text. We’re trained to either shrug our shoulders and move on. Why?

It’s because these signs are anti-human, and are designed to discourage questions and participation. These signs are so bad that residents only know what is going on when the bulldozers start appearing in their neighbourhood.

We need to change this now. I will support bylaw updates to ensure that all development signage are standardized such that they are:

  1. Easy-to-read with pertinent information in large font
  2. A large picture of the proposed development or property rezone
  3. Clear call-to-action with contact information to a human being who is responsible to accept comments.

Do you think it’s time to encourage participation in our neighbourhood developments? If so, then I ask for your support in Markham Votes 2018!
